With Mortal Coil, I made a choice to strip away some rawness and a lot of traditional “rock band” elements that had been my complete experience prior. Remnants still lingered but I leaned more into electronic sounds and while getting used to sound design, production and mixing, I relied on my emotional attachment to the content of the songs to drive the projects sound and purpose. I was sad and the album brightly reflected that. Right now I'm a little more angry, and aggravated at the general state of society, while also jaded and numb when it comes to more personal themes. The new songs absolutely tap into that vein.
With these new songs, I bring a little more of my roots back, while creating something brand new. The new material isn't completely different, it's a bit heavier, more raw, and more stylistically varied vocally, but feels fresh. I have been fortunate enough to learn and become confident in creating a sound that represents what I hear in my head. There is a polished rawness about the new tracks. Big sounds with elements of everything I've learned and have grown to enjoy implementing up to this point. Synths, boomy drums, loud guitars, soft pretty shit, and some weird shit too. Describing the songs is getting old though, I am very ready to just start teasing and releasing.
Brass tacks? I have four tracks left waiting for lyrics. I'm not telling how many are already done. After that it's onto tracking and editing and mixing and hunting for artwork and other loose ends that need tying before an official release can be thought about. All things probably not that interesting. Anyway, thank u 4 being here.
